Uxbridge Man and Van Health and Safety Policy
Uxbridge Man and Van is committed to providing a professional, safe and healthy working environment for our employees, customers, contractors and members of the public. This Health and Safety policy supports our removal and delivery services by setting clear responsibilities, safe working practices and continuous improvement standards.
Policy Aim and Scope
The aim of this policy is to prevent injury, ill health, damage to property and disruption to our removal operations. It applies to all employees, contractors, agency workers and any other persons engaged in activities on behalf of Uxbridge Man and Van, whether working at customers premises, in transit or at any storage or loading location.
Health and safety considerations are integrated into planning and delivering our services, including domestic removals, office moves, loading, unloading, packing, handling of goods and associated driving duties.
Management Responsibilities
Company management has overall responsibility for implementing this policy and ensuring compliance with relevant health and safety legislation and industry best practice. Management will provide appropriate resources, training, supervision and information so that employees can carry out their duties safely.
Management will ensure that risk assessments are completed, recorded, reviewed and communicated, and that appropriate control measures are in place for manual handling, driving, working environments and the use of equipment. Senior staff will monitor health and safety performance and take action where improvements are required.
Employee Responsibilities
All employees have a duty to take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by their actions or omissions. Employees must cooperate fully with this policy and follow all safe systems of work, instructions and training provided.
Employees must promptly report any accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, damaged equipment or hazards to their supervisor or manager. They must not misuse or interfere with anything provided in the interests of health and safety and must only undertake tasks for which they have been trained and are competent.
Risk Assessment and Safe Working Practices
Uxbridge Man and Van carries out risk assessments for typical removal operations and site specific tasks where necessary. These assessments identify foreseeable hazards, evaluate risks and determine suitable control measures. Risk assessments are reviewed regularly and whenever there is a significant change in work activities, equipment or locations.
Safe working procedures are in place for loading and unloading vehicles, packing and unpacking, securing loads, lifting and carrying, operating lifting aids and working in shared or confined spaces. Staff are required to follow these procedures at all times to minimise the likelihood of accidents and damage.
Manual Handling and Use of Equipment
Manual handling is a key element of removal work and is managed carefully to reduce the risk of strains, sprains and other injuries. Staff receive training in safe lifting and carrying techniques, including team lifts, assessing load weight and size, planning routes and using mechanical aids where available.
Suitable handling equipment, such as trolleys, dollies, straps and blankets, is provided and maintained. Employees must inspect equipment before use and report any defects immediately. Oversized, awkward or heavy items must not be handled by one person where this would present an unacceptable risk.
Vehicle and Driving Safety
Uxbridge Man and Van maintains its vehicles in a safe and roadworthy condition through regular checks, inspections and servicing. Drivers are required to complete pre use vehicle checks and report any defects without delay. Loads must always be secured correctly to prevent movement during transit.
Drivers must comply with road traffic laws, speed limits, parking and loading restrictions. They must not drive under the influence of alcohol, drugs or any substance that may impair their ability to drive safely. Journey planning takes account of realistic travel times, rest breaks and safe access to customer locations.
Customer and Public Protection
Our teams work with care to protect customers, their property and the general public. This includes maintaining tidy work areas, managing trip hazards such as removal blankets and equipment, and using safe routes for carrying items through buildings and shared spaces.
Where necessary, our staff may cordon off areas, use warning signs or verbally inform people nearby when moving large or heavy objects. We take particular care in communal areas, stairways and busy access routes to keep disruption and risk to a minimum.
Training, Supervision and Communication
All employees receive appropriate induction and ongoing health and safety training relevant to their roles. This includes training in manual handling, vehicle safety, use of equipment, incident reporting and emergency procedures. Additional training is provided when new equipment, working methods or regulations are introduced.
Supervisors are responsible for monitoring compliance with safe working practices on site and during journeys. Health and safety information is communicated through briefings, toolbox talks, instruction documents and regular reviews of working methods.
Accident Reporting and Emergency Procedures
All accidents, injuries, near misses and instances of property damage must be reported and recorded as soon as possible. Uxbridge Man and Van investigates incidents to identify root causes and introduce corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Emergency procedures are in place for fire, serious injury, vehicle incidents and other emergencies that may arise during removal work. Employees are informed of these procedures and must follow them, prioritising the safety of people above property or schedules.
Welfare, Health and Fitness for Work
Uxbridge Man and Van recognises the physical demands of removal work and encourages employees to maintain good health, take rest breaks and stay hydrated. Staff must inform management if they have a medical condition or are taking medication that could affect their ability to carry out tasks safely.
The company does not tolerate working under the influence of alcohol, illegal substances or misused prescription drugs. Where there are concerns regarding fitness for work, employees may be temporarily reassigned or asked to seek medical advice.
Continuous Improvement and Policy Review
This Health and Safety policy is reviewed regularly and updated when necessary to reflect changes in legislation, industry guidance, company activities or identified improvements. Feedback from employees, customers and incident investigations is used to strengthen our approach to safety.
By working together and following the principles set out in this policy, Uxbridge Man and Van aims to deliver reliable removal services while protecting the wellbeing of everyone involved in or affected by our operations.
